Full Circle

Funny how some things in this club always manage to find their way back into your hands after letting them go.  In my case it’s a set of Diamond Racing wheels.   Ya ya you hear that name, roll your eyes, and say “those are made for circle track cars, you cant balance them, they wobble, blah blah blah”.   I say “Oh well, they work for me” lol… and they actually aren’t all the bad mechanical wise.  They are cheap and if run right make a simple car look mean as ****.  I mean, how can you go wrong with that?

Mixed Emotions

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Today I sit here after arriving home from work, receiving more texts from friends, with feelings at opposite ends of the spectrum.  “Why?” you wonder, well one of the largest shows of the year is taking place in Ocean City Maryland, H2O and I’m missing it again… a show that I had vowed since I missed it a few years back,  for absurd reasoning, that I would never miss it again and yet here I am.  Sitting, reminiscing and pondering about the good times being had with good people of the VW scene, the club, and some of my best friends.  But now on the other side of this emotion is one of unexplained proportions, being a first time home buyer!!  Crazy right?  Something I have tried to do for years and now it’s a reality.

Photobucket

Our good friend the Merch recently acquired a stellar ‘71 Bay Window Bus.  Not only is this thing a solid running and driving specimen, but it’s got patina that many would give their left testicle for (and maybe even their right one, too).  Over the past few weeks many man hours have been put into tweaking and adjusting this beast to broke.status standards.  This past Saturday evening I made the trip out to Fitchburg to help Mr. Merchant and Nate put the final touches on the suspension.  Unfortunately for us this turned out to be no easy task.

Pre-H2O season is my favorite part of the year.  Scrambling around like a chipmunk looking for a lost nut to get all the last minute things done to your car.  The weather slowly getting colder as everyone remembers what last winter was like in the back of their head when they step out in the morning, or come back from The Boulder in the wee hours of the morning.  This is the one time of year where the world stops for us that will be attending H2O.  You sit down make a list of things you want to accomplish and then you realize you may get half of it done so you prioritize which ones you need to get done, and the things that will get you noticed on the strip, and you start with the latter of the two.

Sometimes really crappy stuff happens to really good people.  This is one of those things that makes us humans scratch our heads in confusion.  Yesterday one of those events took place that just makes you wonder what the hell people are thinking.  I was just chillin’ at my place yesterday waiting for Jay Diller to come by so we could take off to ThatGuyRyan’s place to administer some old fashioned CBS low to his Mk5.  All of a sudden my phone blows up courtesy of founding member of CBS Durty Dee.  The result of the call was me standing in a parking lot looking at the most massive wheel gap of all time.
